Hobo Dinner
This one is better for car camping than backpacking because it requires so many ingredients. Use an aluminum pan with sides (like an oversized aluminum bowl) and a lid for each person or use one dutch oven and throw all the ingredients in and spoon out individual portions to save dishes and trash.
10 beef patties, pre-cooked
1 large onion
5 or 6 potatoes
1 bag baby carrots
2 jars pizza sauce
2 lbs mozzarella cheese
2 sticks or bags pepperoni
butter
water
Slice the potatatoes into thin round slices and cut up the onion into small pieces.
Butter the bottom of the tin bowl and place the potatoes in first (they take the longest to cook), then break up the hamburger patty followed by the onions.
Bite the carrots and spit into the aluminum pan or bowl (or cut them up if that is not your style), followed by the sauce, pepperoni and cheese.
Add a little water for cooking and place the lid on the bowl and set the bowl over hot coals for about ten minutes (an oven mit may be necessary too). If the lid has a white paper side and a sliver side, place the silver side up because the white side may catch on fire (or use alluminum foil as the lid). The silver side allows you to scratch initials to avoid confusion and doesn’t catch on fire.
Spoon out individual portions and enjoy!
